MSc. INFORMATICS AND COMPUTATIONAL BIOMEDICINE

The Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Infromatics in collaboration with the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the School of Sciences of the University of Thessaly organize and operate from the Academic Year 2014-2015 the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme of Studies (MSc.) entitled “Informatics and Computational Biomedicine”. The MSc. was approved by the Ministerial Decision, Government Gazette 2730, vol. Β΄/13.10.2014, Num. 159893/B7/6-10-2014, amended by No. 16394/16/GP, Government Gazette 3757, vol. Official Gazette of Re-establishment 2008, 13/7/2018. From 2022 onwards, the MSc. will operate according to the updated Government Gazette 2023, Vol.B /24/02/2023 and the provisions of Ν. 4957/2022, as they are established and in force.

The MSc. «Informatics and Computational Biomedicine” has as its subjects Computer Science, Computer Science and Biomedicine. The aim of this MSc is the scientific training and specialization of students in the above mentioned subjects and the development of related research activities and applications. The objectives of this MSc are:
i. The promotion of scientific research and the specialisation of graduate scientists in the fields of:
a) Computational Medicine and Biology,
b) Computer and Telecommunication Systems Security, Big Data Management, and Simulation, and
c) Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education.

ii. Attracting graduates of the two collaborating Departments, who either seek education through the second cycle of studies, or wish to continue for doctoral studies.

iii. Attracting graduates from other Departments or Institutions with a related field of study and with potential for further research activity.

iv. To strengthen the presence of the School of Sciences and increase its student population, in order to further enhance its position and competitiveness in the academic environment.

v. To provide high quality postgraduate education, both to the local community, nationally and internationally, so that graduates have the ability to contribute in the short and medium term to the economic and technological development of Greece.

The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme aims at the specialisation of graduates in the fields of:

  1. Computational Medicine, Computational Biology and their Applications,
  2. Computer and Telecommunication Systems Security, Big Data Management, and Simulation,
  3. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education.

The duration of the MSc in “Informatics and Computational Biomedicine” leading to the award of the Diploma of Postgraduate Studies is three (3) academic semesters.The total number of credits (ECTS) required for the award of the Diploma of Postgraduate Studies is ninety (90) ECTS.
