Description.

The Practical Training Programme for Teaching Computer Science Units in Primary and Secondary Education, which concerns the pedagogical competence offered by the MSc “Computer Science and Computational Biomedicine” of the School of Sciences of the University of Thessaly, for graduates of “Computer Science and ICT in Education” is valid from the academic year 2022-2023. It takes place in one semester (spring) and is organized in such a way as to give the opportunity for active participation of postgraduate students in the life of the school environment, in order to familiarize students with it. More specifically, the Practical Teaching Exercises (PT) in   Primary and Secondary Education is offered as a course of Free Elective Pedagogical Knowledge in the 2nd semester (spring) with 7,5 ECTS. Postgraduate students have the possibility to include in their course declarations the ECTS in any semester of their studies they wish. A supervisor is appointed, who monitors and evaluates each micro-teaching and teaching, advises, intervenes, motivates and suggests. Postgraduate students who are graduates of Pedagogical Departments or who already hold a Certificate of Pedagogical Competence are exempt from the obligation to take the Practical Teaching Practice. course and will have to choose another course from the curriculum.  

COURSE CONTENT:
1. Classroom organisation and management (teaching time, discipline and self-discipline, rules of work and classroom behaviour)
2.   Methods of systematic observation and evaluation of teaching.
3. Reflection, through the use of theoretical knowledge, on the existing limitations and possibilities of teaching practices and the organisation of the school curriculum.
4. “Counselling” readiness in order to properly manage problems that arise at classroom level.
5. Evaluative readiness to modify instruction in cases of students with Learning Difficulties or behavioural problems.
6. Organization and implementation of teaching according to the principles and methods of modern teaching.
