CURRICULUM

The curriculum of all the directions of the MSc Programme “Informatics and Computational Biomedicine” includes elective courses and the preparation of an M.Sc., and is divided into three (3) academic semesters. The first two academic semesters involve the successful attendance and examination of eight (8) courses, four in each semester (winter/spring), which correspond to sixty (60) ECTS. The third academic semester is available for the preparation, writing and presentation of the M.D. thesis or for the attendance and successful examination of four (4) additional courses (in addition to the eight (8)), which the Master’s student chooses from the offered courses belonging to the tables of the two other directions of the M.D. thesis, corresponding to thirty (30) ECTS.

Courses can be taught in both Greek and English. The semester courses of the curriculum of each direction that can be offered in the timetable are determined by the Programme Committee on the recommendation of Coordianting Committee based on needs and available resources. Modification of the course schedule and redistribution between semesters may be made on the basis of a documented recommendation of the Coordianting Committee and decision of the Programme Committee The detailed content of the courses is described in the Study Guide. The course syllabus may be modified upon the recommendation of the Lecturers and the approval of the Programme Commitee Regular meetings are foreseen between the participants in the teaching of courses of related subjects with the aim of harmonising the content of each course. The minimum weekly teaching hours per course are three (3). Substitution of courses is the responsibility of the instructor after consultation with the course coordinator and approval by the Director of the MSc. . The lectures of the courses in Tables 1 and 3 and their laboratory parts are held at the Department of Informatics with Applications in Biomedicine, while the lectures of the courses in Table 2 are held at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications. In addition, it is possible to conduct a small part of the courses in another department of the University of Thessaly or another University Institution, which has specialized laboratory infrastructure, provided that there is an agreement with this department. Teaching in all three directions of the MSc is mainly face-to-face, however, lectures may be attended by electronic procedures of synchronous and asynchronous learning, when technically feasible, using a relevant platform of the University of Thessaly. If deemed necessary by the Programme Commitee some courses of the MSc Programme may be taught using the distance learning methodology, the percentage of which will not exceed 35% of the total number of courses. It is possible to conduct part of the face-to-face lectures of the courses by videoconference, if there are special reasons, following a well-founded recommendation of the Coordinator and decision of the Curriculum Committee.
