The Intelligent Systems Laboratory is active in research and teaching in the following areas: Machine Learning Algorithms, Computer Vision, Intelligent Systems, Pervasive Computing, Robotics. The Laboratory’s subject matter is at the cutting edge of research and development with numerous potential applications in every field of science and technology. The cooperation with other Research Laboratories of Public Institutions and University and Research Institutions in Greece and abroad will increase the international recognition of the University, but also of the regions of Thessaly and Central Greece. The collaboration with the private sector is expected to give a significant boost to local industry, which will be able to take advantage of the transfer of know-how from the members of the Laboratory to increase innovation and the efficiency of the products and services provided. The “Computer Architecture, Compilers and System Security Laboratory”, with the international name “Computer Architecture, Compilers and System Security Laboratory” and the distinctive title “CACS Lab”, has the mission to serve the teaching and research needs in the fields of Computer Architecture, Compilers and System Security, and in particular:
The coverage of corresponding teaching needs of other departments of the University of Thessaly, if this is possible and requested by these departments.
Conducting research focused on the design and implementation of innovative parallel processing architectures at the hardware level, both processors and accelerators or other co-processors, as well as the design, implementation and integration of security mechanisms in such architectures. Also, the design and construction of compilers with emphasis on optimizations, both general and specific to the above systems, as well as the application of compilers to high-level synthesis techniques, both general and specific to the hardware of these systems. Finally, the design and integration in compilers of security mechanisms for the code they produce, which integrate and guarantee the security of the architecture level.
The provision of services in accordance with the provisions of Article 7 of the Law. 1268/1982.
The cooperation and exchange of scientific knowledge with other Academic or Research Institutions in Greece or abroad in the framework of academic or research projects.

The Video and Cloud Computing Technology Laboratory aims to cover, both research and teaching, the cognitive subjects of video coding and transmission, cloud computing and parallel processing.
The laboratory will provide the appropriate academic environment to meet the teaching and research needs at undergraduate and postgraduate level of the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications for video and cloud computing. At the same time, through the cooperation and exchange of scientific knowledge with other Academic or Research Institutions in Greece or abroad in the framework of academic or research programs, conditions for the creation of knowledge and education of students will be created.
The research activity focuses on the implementation of systems (both software and hardware) for video compression and transmission, as well as parallel processing and development of corresponding applications in the cloud. For this purpose, algorithms, systems and applications are developed to achieve real-time encoding/decoding of video signals. Finally, the Laboratory conducts research related to the optimization of processing in the Cloud, both at software and system level.

The Digital Neuropsychological Assessment Laboratory provides the appropriate academic environment to meet the teaching and research needs at undergraduate and postgraduate level of the Department of Computer Science. Telecommunications for the design, analysis and development of new neuropsychological assessment and behavioral improvement tools and the creation of rehabilitation programs for psychopathological disorders. At the same time, through the cooperation and exchange of scientific knowledge with other Academic or Research Institutions in Greece or abroad in the framework of academic or research programs, conditions for the creation, knowledge and education of the students of the Department concerned are ensured.
In addition, the actions undertaken by the Digital Neuropsychological Assessment Laboratory fall within the areas of the construction and use of computer programs to detect and improve the learning abilities of children and adolescents as well as psychopathological disorders of individuals belonging to all age groups at the behavioral level, in combination with the monitoring and improvement of their brain activity, which can be controlled either by modern imaging techniques or by weighted neuropsychological

The mission of the laboratory is to:
- The provision of the appropriate academic environment for the coverage of teaching and research needs at undergraduate and postgraduate level of the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications for the design, analysis and development of algorithms and applications in the fields of analysis, design and development of algorithms and applications of hardware and software for discrete and integrated electronic circuits and systems. The activities of the laboratory cover a wide range of activities including microprocessors, sensors and their networking, telecommunication devices, methodologies and design tools, as well as applications, which are optimized by parallel hardware-software design (in discrete layer, ASIC or FPGA). They concern their modelling and simulation, the development of new design methodologies with emphasis on power consumption, reliability and optimal performance over a wide range of operational parameters, the implementation of algorithms and CAD tools to support the new design methodologies using parallel and distributed architectures, for all levels of computer system design, the development and implementation in hardware of algorithms for specific applications (digital, discrete and integrated) such as telecommunication systems, power transmission systems, discrete and integrated sensors, sensor networks, and in general applications where there is significant benefit from hardware-software interoperability.
- The cooperation and exchange of scientific knowledge with other Academic or Research Institutions in Greece or abroad in the framework of academic or research programs.
