ETHICS OF RESEARCH

The University of Thessaly (UTH) has a Code of Ethics and Conduct in Research, the implementation of which is the responsibility of the UTH Research Ethics and Conduct Committee (REC). The EHRC is responsible and accountable for the compliance of research ethics for research projects carried out at the PIU. According to Law 4957/2022, the Research Ethics and Ethics Committee can give an opinion on ethics and ethics issues concerning an article to be published in a scientific journal or a thesis or dissertation under preparation. According to the decision of the Rector’s Council in its meeting no. 53/23-10-2019, regarding the issues of confidentiality control, respect for personal data and other ethics and ethics rules of undergraduate theses, postgraduate theses and doctoral dissertations, each Department constitutes a three-member subcommittee on Research Ethics and Ethics. The responsible Tripartite Committee for Research Ethics for the MSc is the corresponding committee of the Department of Computer Science and Biomedical Informatics (DIB), which is also responsible for the administrative support of the Programme. In case of a complaint, or in case the scientific supervisor considers that research carried out within the framework of the MSc needs a relevant approval that does not fall under the EHRC of the UTH, he/she submits his/her request to the relevant committee of DIB. In terms of the process, interested parties shall submit: 1) a request for proposal review, 2) a description of the research proposal, 3) research protocols, consent forms and other supporting documents deemed necessary based on the disciplines. After reviewing the proposal, the Committee will issue a Certificate of Approval of the proposal of the Master’s thesis or any other work carried out within the activities of the MSc. In case of rejection of the application or disagreement among the members of the Committee, it will be forwarded to the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Thessaly. The certificate of approval shall be communicated to the University of Thessaly and to the University of Thessaly.
